Prepare to embark on a sonic journey with Further Reductions as they present "Array" on the esteemed Knekelhuis label. Building on the success of their previous EP, "Disparate Elements," which became a staple at Rush Hour, this Brooklyn duo's second offering for Amsterdam's powerhouse imprint has been well worth the three-year wait.
"Array" beautifully melds Shawn O' Sullivan's affinity for robust beats and hypnotically atmospheric textures with Katie Rose's dream-pop sensibility. The result is a mesmerizing work of art that exudes an ethereal charm, evolving with each track into a more extroverted sonic experience.
The EP commences with the aptly titled "Dense as Smoke," enveloping listeners in a sultry mist, where Rose's dreamlike poetry intermingles with a backdrop reminiscent of a thousand and one Arabian nights.
As the journey unfolds, the hypnotic title track takes centre stage, a slow-rotating thumper adorned with spaced-out shoegaze vocals. The tempo and mood then shift on "Only in my Mind," evoking the feeling of a drugged-out, after-hours interpretation of a long-forgotten Gesloten Cirkel track.
The EP reaches its climax with "More Than Just a Dream," an irresistible earworm featuring stuttering Blue Monday-esque beats, droney bleeps, and mesmerising synth loops that effortlessly draw you in. Further Reductions delivers yet another exceptional EP, making a noteworthy addition to the ever-expanding Knekelhuis catalog.
