It's pretty rare I get this excited about some wax hitting the shop, however I had begged Glenn to add this to our next order a handful a times until he finally caved. To show my appreciation I thought it's probably time for me to contribute some written work to the site, if you like this enough I'll be back for more...
Ibbs is my favourite DJ / Producer at the moment, and this marks the first pressing on his own label Night Service (run with his partner Paige - also one to check out), after two successful digital releases over 2 years ago. Ibbs is a London-based producer, who first came to fame within the UKG scene, but made the change to his first love of techno after gaining some real popularity over in Europe, where he now holds a residency at the prestigous Tresor London.
In a world where techno is becoming saturated, we’re trying to curate the best of the best here, and Bailey really stands out to me for his unique percussions, powerful grooves, and implementation of breaks that are made for primetime.
It’s rare for me to listen to an EP like this as frequently as I have, but each track takes you on an unique journey while still managing to stay on theme, showcasing a clear development in sound from the previous ‘Volta’ and ‘Not Into It’ releases. These both had standout tracks, but this new rendition is much more cohesive and consistent from start to finish.
The opener ‘Make Me Feel’ kicks off the EP in typical Ibbs fashion with dynamic energy and his distinctive sound all over this one. The self-titled Posture Damage is great for the name alone, but features stripped-back groove, and ambiguous samples that could draw anyone to the dancefloor.
My highlight track, (and maybe my favourite of 2024) is Unsociable Hours. The eerie vocal samples take over and is full of relentless energy. I’ve been finding a way to play this whenever I get the chance to jam, and I think it could get a run no matter the timeslot. The closer Posted Up North is loopy and subdued, suitable for the later hours of the night and when the tempo has slowed.
I hope this release gets the full treatment is deserves in here, I don’t see enough people talking about Ibbs online, so hopefully this helps spread his cause. There’s only a couple copies left of the EP - do the right thing.
