Freestyle Records proudly presents the reissue of "Come Touch Tomorrow" by Ambiance II Fusion, a fusion rarity from the mid-80s that is nothing short of a musical journey. Originally recorded in Hollywood, California in October and November of 1984 and released in 1985, this album is a testament to the boundless creativity of Nigerian-born saxophonist, flutist, and clarinetist, Daoud Abubakar Balewa.
Daoud Abubakar Balewa, after releasing four self-produced albums between 1979 and 1982, took a brief hiatus before returning with "Come Touch Tomorrow" in 1985. This marked the birth of Ambiance II Fusion, a refreshed incarnation of his musical exploration.
"Come Touch Tomorrow" seamlessly blends elements of afro-spiritual jazz, be-bop-inflected fusion, and cosmic exploration. The album introduces spacey pads and drum machines, elevating the sound into distinctly modern and cosmic realms while retaining the tight arrangements and solid rhythm sections that defined his earlier work as Ambiance.
One standout track is "Boy What a Joy" (B1), where a sublimely funky synth and drum machine showdown unfolds in prophetically lo-fi fashion, offering a glimpse of stylistic approaches that resonate with contemporary artists like Dâm-Funk and others.
With its reissue, "Come Touch Tomorrow" invites you to rediscover the magic of Ambiance II Fusion and experience the cosmic fusion that transcends time and genre.
