Polyrhythmic nu jazz where acoustic percussion, minimalism and electronics meet in a loose, colourful six-track LP.
Akusmi returns to Tonal Union with Terra Incognita, the second full-length from French-born, London-based composer Pascal Bideau. Across the six-track vinyl edition, jazz instrumentation and electronic production sit alongside African-influenced polyrhythms and repeating minimalist figures, with contributions from Sarathy Korwar, Dudù Kouate and Marysia Osu.
A Waking Dream, Anima and Club Subterranea open the record before Drongo’s Flute, Rain Dance and Dawning Dusk carry its rhythmic ideas further into the second side. There is plenty happening in the arrangements, but they retain an open, unforced feel throughout. This edition is the additional black BioVinyl pressing, housed in a heavyweight board sleeve.
