Maayan Nidam – Nightlong
The Waves (CLMH001)
Cuban source recordings recast as loose, minimal house across Maayan Nidam’s 2009 debut album.
Nightlong began with recordings made in Havana in early 2008, capturing Cuban voices, woodwinds and brass before the material was handed to Maayan Nidam to pull apart and rebuild. The result is eight tracks where those live recordings sit inside her stripped-back approach to house, with plenty of space left around the original instrumentation.
Originally released on Powershovel Audio in 2009, Nightlong returns here on The Waves as a double LP. It moves well beyond straight club minimal, bringing house, jazzier instrumentation and the Cuban source material together in a way that still sounds distinctly Nidam.
