Sonny Ism - Union: Integration of the Shadow

Sonny Ism – Union: Integration of the Shadow
Northern Underground Records (NU003)

House is only the starting point here, with Sonny Ism pulling the album into ambient electronics, synth-pop and stranger rhythmic corners.

Union: Integration of the Shadow is Xavier Bacash’s debut album under the Sonny Ism project, written after his move from Australia to Copenhagen. Across nine tracks, the house foundation of his earlier work opens out into ambient electronics, vocals and more song-led territory, with Liquid Phase even drawing on a ’90s jazz and jungle influence.

The vinyl edition adds Manmade Deejay’s remix of Transient Feeling to the album proper. It’s a wide-ranging record without feeling scattered — house remains underneath, but Bacash gives himself plenty of room to move beyond it.
